A landmark step for British manufacturing, cutting costs and carbon without upfront investment
Innasol has successfully completed its first Solar Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) project, delivering a fully funded rooftop solar installation for UK manufacturer Solway Precast at its Barrhill site in Girvan, Ayrshire.
The project marks a major milestone for Innasol and demonstrates how manufacturers can cut carbon emissions, secure long‑term energy price certainty and reduce reliance on the grid without upfront capital investment.
Delivered through Innasol’s Solar PPA model, supported by its funding partnership with Siemens, the installation allows Solway Precast to generate clean electricity onsite while purchasing power at a fixed, predictable unit cost over a ten‑year term.
Tackling the rising energy costs and net zero pressure
For manufacturers like Solway Precast, energy is no longer just an operational cost, it has become one of the most volatile and unpredictable pressures facing businesses, capable of shifting month to month with little warning and even less control. Alongside the growing demand from customers and stakeholders to demonstrate tangible progress toward Net Zero.
A solar PPA that removes the capital barrier
Rather than diverting capital away from expansion and operations, Solway Precast opted for a Solar PPA, enabling the business to stabilise energy costs, reduce emissions and maintain financial flexibility.
Solway Precast owner Andy Gillon chose to partner with Innasol to deploy rooftop solar through a fully funded Solar PPA, backed by Innasol’s funding partnership with Siemens.
Under the PPA model:
- Solway Precast did not need to invest upfront capital
- Electricity unit costs are secured and locked in for 10 years
- The business can redirect capital into growth and expansion plans
- Net Zero ambitions are met without financial compromise
This approach allows renewable energy to become an enabler of growth, rather than a competing priority.
The installation: clean power across two buildings
The project included:
- 193 kWp of rooftop solar installed across two buildings
- High‑performance Sungrow solar panels
- Sungrow inverters for maximum efficiency
- A Sungrow PowerStack battery system, installed outside of the PPA arrangement
The battery system captures excess solar energy generated during the day, allowing Solway Precast to use stored power when the sun isn’t shining, further reducing reliance on the grid.
Real Impact: costs cut, carbon reduced, power secured
The system is expected to cover up to 80% of Solway Precast’s onsite power consumption, significantly reducing reliance on the grid while avoiding almost 40 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every single year.
Alongside the environmental benefits, the project delivers long‑term electricity price certainty, protecting the business from future volatility, while also strengthening Solway Precast’s sustainability credentials across its supply chain.
