Generating and using your own electricity isn’t always easy for commercial buildings.
But at ATV Services Scotland’s newly built headquarters, this challenge has been turned into an opportunity. The site now produces the majority of the power it needs directly on its own roof, with up to 90% of solar energy consumed within the building and around 45% grid independence from day one.
Supported by battery storage and EV charging, the system is already helping the business reduce carbon emissions, improve resilience, and take more control over how its energy is used throughout the working day.
Installed and delivered by Innasol, the setup was designed specifically to meet the needs of a modern, energy‑conscious commercial site even before it became fully operational.
The challenge: designing energy performance into a new headquarters
ATV Services Scotland supplies off-road vehicles and related services across the UK. As part of its wider sustainability goals, the business is committed to lowering its environmental impact and increasing its use of renewable energy.
Building a new headquarters gave ATV Services Scotland an opportunity to put that ambition into practice in a more visible and meaningful way. Rather than treating energy performance as an afterthought, their aim was to build it into the fabric of the site from the very start.
However, designing an energy system for a site with no historical usage data brought specific challenges:
- No baseline consumption to model demand patterns
- Uncertain future load, with staffing levels and equipment usage still evolving
- A need for flexibility, especially with electric vehicles expected to become central to the fleet
ATV Services Scotland needed a system capable of generating its own renewable power, using as much of it as possible on site, and adapting as the facility’s operational needs develop.
The solution: on-site solar generation with battery storage and EV charging
To meet these requirements, Innasol designed a system centred around on‑site solar PV supported by battery storage and future‑ready EV charging infrastructure.
With a 32 kW solar PV system now covering the roof, ATV Services Scotland are able to capture energy during daylight hours and forming the backbone of the site’s electricity supply.
This is supported by 30 kWh of battery storage, stores surplus energy, ensuring it can be used later, particularly in the early morning or late afternoon when sunlight drops but demand remains. Helping maximise on‑site consumption and avoid exporting valuable renewable power unnecessarily.
In addition, three electric vehicle charging points were also installed, supporting ATV Services Scotland’s plans to introduce electric vehicles and ensuring the site is ready to meet that transition head-on.
Together, this creates a smart and responsive energy setup, where the electricity generated can be used when needed, rather than exported or replaced by an expensive grid supply.
The result: high on-site usage and reduced grid reliance from day one
Despite being commissioned in September 2025 and not yet seeing peak summer conditions, the system has already delivered strong early performance:
- 80–90% of solar production is used directly on site, supporting day‑to‑day operations
- Around 45% grid independence, giving the business more control and reducing exposure to rising electricity costs
- An estimated 6 tonnes of CO₂ avoided every year, helping drive ATV’s wider sustainability commitments
Battery storage plays a key role in shifting energy to where it’s most needed throughout the working day, supporting consistent, predictable performance.
For a commercial building with no historic energy data to draw upon, achieving this level of efficiency from day one demonstrates the strength of a carefully designed, integrated renewable system.

Installation partner: PWR Electrical Services
The electrical installation was delivered by PWR Electrical Services, a NICEIC-registered contractor based on the west coast of Scotland.
Established in 2009, PWR works across commercial, industrial, and renewable projects, providing installation, testing, and inspection services.
Led on site by Director Johnny McLung, the team played a key role in installing and commissioning the electrical systems that support the solar, battery, and EV charging setup, ensuring everything was safely delivered and ready for use.
