April 8, 2024 Biomass Boilers, Making the Switch to Greener Heating, Switching to Biomass Heating
How easy is it to switch from oil to biomass heating?
If you are presently utilising an oil boiler to heat your home or business there is a good chance you have looked for a cleaner alternative option. In which case, biomass has likely come up as it is the only viable option that can produce the same comparable output, efficiency, and reliability of oil heating.
But how difficult is it to make the switch from oil to biomass and what is involved in doing so?
As with all things, the answer is going to come down to how complex your existing heating system and heating requirements are. Regardless of what you were looking to replace your oil boiler with, this factor would invariably affect the costs of doing so.
OIL VS BIOMASS CONSIDERATIONS
There is no getting away from the fact that biomass boilers are larger than oil boilers. They do take up more space and thus the availability of space will be a factor in whether or not you can take advantage of a biomass heating solution. Our experienced engineers will survey your site ahead of quoting to ensure it can accommodate a biomass boiler.
In some circumstances, again this will depend on the size of the space/spaces you are heating, biomass boilers can be situated in pre-existing or purpose-built outbuildings. This is often necessary for large heating requirements where larger boilers are needed.
Assuming that you have the space to get a biomass boiler in our installation partners will do all the hard work. They will construct the boiler, set it up and connect it with your existing heating and hot water system. This will then simply replace your previous boiler and begin providing your heating and hot water seamlessly. You will barely notice the difference, except where it counts the most, in the extra money in your pocket!
BIOMASS INCOME
Biomass boilers are counted as renewable heating systems. As such they qualify for the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. This government initiative will pay you for every kWh of energy your boiler produces for ten years. Within that time your biomass boiler has usually paid for itself in RHI payments and cheaper fuel costs.
This means that for a significant period (an average of 5 years) you can be earning money for heating your home or business. Now that is what we call a no brainer!
