Key Facts about Domestic RHI

You may or may not be aware that having a cheating solution for your residence or other domestic property will qualify you to apply for the government’s domestic RHI scheme.

WHAT IS THE RHI SCHEME?

The RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive) scheme is a government provided financial incentive to promote the use of renewable heating. If you have a heating solution which is eligible then you are free to apply for the scheme.

Those who apply and are accepted will receive quarterly payments from the government for a period of seven years based on the heat demand of your home.

HOW TO APPLY FOR RHI

In order to qualify your biomass boiler must be the primary source of heating for your domestic residence (or residence you own and pay the heating bills for) and that home must be based within the UK.

The installation must already be in place and functioning, you cannot apply before the boiler has been installed.

Both a home you have had an installation added to or one you have bought that has an installation in place can qualify, but there are some addendums to that.

You cannot apply if the home or homes were built with biomass boilers (or other renewable heating solution) from the start. The rules sate that the renewable heating system cannot have been commissioned before the home it provides heat to was first occupied. In other words, only retrofitted renewable heating systems qualify, even if you buy a home developed by someone else with a biomass boiler in place from the start, you will not qualify.
