Case Study: Dunkeld House Hotel Heating System Upgrade

PROJECT:

Dunkeld House Hotel, in Perthshire, had an exhausted oil boiler with 50% of the domestic hot water generated by electricity which was replaced with a biomass wood pellet boiler. The hotel management team wanted an efficient renewable alternative with a heating system to provide heat and hot water to their guests and staff. The solution had to be energy efficient and easy to install and maintain.

The existing heating system was outdated and inefficient, resulting in high energy costs for Dunkeld House Hotel. Additionally, the system required frequent maintenance and repairs, causing disruptions to the hotel’s operations. The hotel needed a new heating system to provide efficient and reliable heating and hot water while reducing energy costs.

SOLUTION:

KES provided a turnkey solution by installing their bespoke ”Energi” cabins, which housed an ETA Hack 500kW wood pellet boiler and a large fuel store for wood pellets. The biomass boiler was chosen because it was energy-efficient, easy to install and maintain, and would help the hotel reduce its carbon footprint. It is an energy-efficient biomass heating system that uses wood pellets for fuel, resulting in significant energy cost savings, improved comfort for guests and staff, and ease of maintenance.

The new heating system was connected to the hotel’s existing heating distribution system, ensuring that heat and hot water were provided to all areas of the hotel. The installation caused minimal disruption to the Dunked House Hotel‘s operations.
