What to Look for in a Good Biomass Heating Training Session?

More and more training facilities are cropping up in the renewable heating industry. This is no bad thing: it signifies that energy professionals are beginning to become more aware of the importance of biomass heating training.

As well as the vital role it plays in consistently delivering good technical installations and customer service. These are the two most important components needed to create a good reputation for the renewable heating industry, which in turn will ensure its long term success.

With this in mind, it’s really important that professionals are receiving good training that fully prepares them for the many different challenges that installations might present. We spoke to our Training Manager Simon Butcher, who shared with us his top tips on what a good training course looks like:

OBJECTIVES ARE KEY

Clear objectives are so important. They show delegates what they will have gained from attending the training course, and how these can be applied in the outside world.

VARIETY IS THE SPICE OF LIFE

Course leaders should use a variety of teaching methods throughout the course not only to keep the day interesting, but also to cater to delegate’s differing learning needs. This will help ingrain the teaching so that delegates can go on to successfully can go on to successful employ it afterwards. This is most easily done by employing more practical elements, perhaps through technology such as interactive whiteboards, debates or even just written exercises.

WHO IS BIOMASS HEATING TRAINING FOR?

A training course is only as good as the trainer that leads it, so it’s essential to find out what experience your trainer has and assess whether you’re happy with that level of experience before applying to attend the course. Typically, any course should be taken only by someone who has been working in the energy industry for at least five years, guaranteeing a solid base of knowledge. If the course is product specific, the trainer should be willing and able to demonstrate his or her experience with the products in question.

TOP BIOMASS HEATING FACILITIES

Before signing up to any course, it’s wise to ask about the equipment that delegates will be working on. This is particularly important for the more practical courses. Delegates should make sure that on the day, they are practising their knowledge on products that are familiar to them. This way, they will be more successful and comfortable when applying what they have learned once the course is over.
